My Favorite 3 Immune Boosting Supplements

Flu season is always rough, but this year it seems to be the worst I’ve ever seen. Almost everyone I know has caught this crazy bug and it has people down and out for days on end! I have also heard that a lot of people are relapsing and some of the symptoms are lingering for up to a few weeks.

This was the case for me as well. I think I was one of the first to catch it back in November. I had a fever for 2 days, then started to feel better for a day, but then came down with a fever again. When another 2 weeks went by and I still had a sore throat and cough, I realized I needed reinforcements.

Quite a few people I’ve talked to have had the same experience, so I wanted to encourage you that you’re not alone and also want you to know what to expect if you come down with it and what to do to lessen the severity of the virus. These are my top 3 immune boosting supplements. If you start to feel sick, or are around people who are, I would start supplementing these:

1: Elderberry Syrup

 Elderberries grow on trees and even though every part of the plant has medicinal properties, the berries and the flowers are most commonly consumed. There are really countless benefits to elderberries but the benefits most worth noting are:

  • They have antivirus properties. Data suggests that compounds found in elderberries help inhibit enzymes that viruses carry, preventing them from entering our cells.
  • They are a natural antihistamine
  • They contain concentrated amounts of bioflavonoids, vitamin C, antioxidants, beta carotene etc. that help your body have a healthy immune response and fight infection.
  • 1 tsp per day

2: Zinc

Your white blood cells (infection fighting cells) can’t function without zinc. It also plays a role in cytokine production, antibody production, and gene regulation within lymphocytes which are all an integral part in fighting off pathogens.

30mg/ day

3: Vitamin D

Most people know of Vitamin D as the sunshine vitamin that is good for your bones, but they may not know that the active form of vitamin D is one of the most potent hormones in your body! 5,000 IU/day. Check with your doctor first. There are some contraindications with Vitamin D.

Now that you know my top three immune boosting supplements you can be prepared if this nasty flu starts to creep up on you! I’d start using all of this stuff even if you feel fine but haven’t gotten the flu yet this year! You might as well BOOST up that immunity before it’s too late.

Note: when buying vitamin D make sure you buy a complex that has vitamin K in it too! This will negate the chance of vitamin d toxicity among other benefits.
